It’s like a perfectly folded raw-silk napkin, the delicate wings of a bird or ribbons of high-gloss candy. This chair is so covet-worthy, comfortable and courageous. The handiwork of Danish dame and wunderkid, Grete Jalk, it was designed in 1963 and awarded numerous prizes. To date, the GJ Bow Chair remains her most famous work.
Jalk managed to mold two conjoined pieces of plywood and use both soft curves and sharp edges–equally feminine and masculine. It was a bold move that brought her international acclaim.
At the time of her death, there were about 300 of these chairs in existence, making them a most-prized item for today’s collectors.
